I hear it every year. “We are NOT watching American Idol this year!” Hubby is adamant, and very serious.
He really means it this year.
And here we are, watching American Idol again this
year. Every year he swears we aren’t
going to watch it, and every year, we end up watching it. For me though, it’s a lesson in how to
succeed at life – and certainly how to succeed in business (or in riding).
This year one of the contestants REALLY outshines the
others. Blake Lewis is somebody to watch
for a long time to come, even if he doesn’t, by some twist of fate, win the
coveted “American Idol” title. Here is a
kid – he’s younger than I, so I can call him a kid – who has repeatedly
demonstrated that he can take an old song and jazz it up so much that it’s
actually fresh, interesting, new, and his own.
He’s doing what more of us should be doing - Doing something
common uncommonly well.
Those who do something common uncommonly well make
spectacular success stories. They are
the people we emulate, use for inspiration. They are the people who make a difference in the world. They are the people we want to be.
Are you ready to do something common uncommonly well?
What do you do that you love doing?
What is missing in your industry, region, locale, stable or
job?
What would give your clients, patrons, coworkers or boss
something to rave about?
What is needed? It could
be something specific, or just an attribute of a situation that you recognize
as needing improvement.
How can you make yourself indispensable?
What educational opportunities can you take advantage of,
paid, free or bartered that are along the lines of your interest? You'd be surprised what you'll find when you start looking. Want lessons, but can't afford them? Watch other's riding lessons. Read books, get dvds - the possibilities are endless.
Now go dazzle ‘em!
