I’ve been watching a series of dvds this week, learning about how the human mind works, entitled Neuro-Hypnotic Repatterning. It’s of a seminar that Richard Bandler, one of the co-creators of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) put on in Scotland.
I’ve studied what I thought was NLP before, at what Richard calls “the Church of Tony Robbins”, and I must say, that if you have a choice between the two, if you really want results, that you go with Richard Bandler.
I think Tony Robbins is great, he’s very easy on the eyes, and he has a great marketing model, but if you really want results, go to the man who invented the process, the one who’s perfected it over the last thirty years or so. Richard is NOT easy on the eyes, he seems to drool, and his language is a bit coarse - but once you get past that, he is really intelligent, has a great sense of humor, and really really knows his stuff.
I had breakthroughs just watching the seminar. I found that I had business opportunities sitting right in front of me that I was over looking, and I know that when I decide to really pursue my riding career, that this is the key that will help me take it where I want it to go. I may even pick up my Olympic dreams again!
NLP, as Richard describes it, is the “handbook” (that you were never given) to living. How does it apply to business?
It allows you to break out of your old patterns of thought, and therefore actions, within moments. Not days, not weeks – moments.
You can take something that you are afraid of – for example, returning phone calls – and make it something that you enjoy so much that you can’t wait to have calls to return.
You can use it to inspire, motivate and lead clients, customers, and employees.
You can use it to help a riding student, for example, who is terrified of horses over come that fear – without any risk on anybody’s part.
There are all kinds of possibilities for using this technology in your business, as well as in your personal life. I’m just starting to explore the possibilities myself, and I’d love to hear from you about your experiences!
